:: Try putting a white paper towel or peice of cloth on your hand and let the snake crawl through it. Then check to see if you see any black dots on the white cloth ( MITES ). If so you need to treat ASAP. Randy Whittington

:If it is mites, what is tzhe best way to treat them?
A old tried and true method. Get a no pest strip from a pet store or grocery store. Take it out of the vented plastic container it comes in. Cut about a 1in. by 1in. piece for a 10 gal tank size, 1in. by 2in. for a 20 gal size, 2in by 2in. for a 30 gallon size and so on. Put it into some kind of small vented container that the snake cant get into. Take the water bowl out of the cage and then put the peice of pest strip into the cage with the snake. If the top is screen, cover up about
2\3 of it. Avoid much of a draft in the room while treating. Leave the pest strip in for 3 days. Then remove the pest strip, disinfect the cage and put the snake back with his water bowl. This does not kill all the eggs so this should be repeated again in about 10 days. I have seen different variations but this seems to be an average. I have used it in the past with total success and no harm to my snakes. Randy Whittington
