Rhonda,
Thanks for your reply. I just heard about the 1/2-pinky approach on another forum (Arboreal boas/pythons), coincidentally, and have placed just such a morsel tonight.
On your advice, I'll leave it until morning.
Fingers crossed....and thanks,
--Rick
: Sorry to hear your hatchling didn't snatch up the f/t pinky right away. Here are some alternatives:
: * live pinky
: * f/t or live pinky washed with mild soap and water to remove smell
: * freshly killed pinky
: * frozen pinky broken in half (the heads pop off real easy) then thawed in warm water so the guts are oozing out. Yummy!
: * live pinky with its head split open
: Try pinkies in the morning, pinkies overnight, pinkies left in the enclosure with the snake, the snake left in a small enclosure (like a margarine tub or even a small paper bag) with the pinky... lots of different ways to make a mouse appetizing. I'd try something different every 3 or 4 days. I have the best luck leaving the snake overnight in a deli cup with the pinky (live or dead). Any reluctant eaters usually gobble up the half-pinky... something about smell of blood or other juices?
: Good luck,
: Ronda
: PS: I'd avoid earthworms, crickets, or other non-rodent food items
