Im sure over time and with handeling the snake will calm down. That is one reason I am hesitant on buying adult snakes. Some may be great buys, while others are used for breeding and dont get handled much. My corn was a juvenile when I got him and he never bit, but would rattle his tail and was jumpy. After a couple of months and with constant handeling he has gotten much better. He still rattles his tail when feeding and Im moving about the room, but he is otherwise a good pet.
Your Black Rat is definitely a very nice looking snake, and should make a great addition to your collection. Good luck and happy herping.
: I have wanted a black rat forever! I got one a few years ago, nicest snake, but she got out on my way home in the car and I never did find her. So a month ago I finally bought another, this one is channeling satan or something!! Good god she is mean! She is 2 or so, and was not handled much prior to my purchase of her.
: Ack, I know I'll get her to calm down a little, and I am by no means telling people not to get black rats, just wanted to share my little demon with everyone!
