Its likely they are just there actively avoiding the heat while still being around warm blooded animals. Do you raise your own feeders? This would be more of a concern. I eliminated the box and took care of the dishes (larvae in them)...they were gnats and were camping out in my cages. I appreciate the advice and luckily I don't raise my own feeders so the warmblooded creatures around the area were only myself and my wife...well I think she is warm blooded (lol)
