Justin,
About 10 years ago a person in Ohio caught a leucistic black rat snake. They do exist. The person, Matt Meade, bred them and sold leucistics and hets for a number of years. Unfortunately ODNR rulings now make it virtually impossible to work with native herps (even obviously captive generated color morphs). So the breeding of these animals in Ohio has been discontinued (or done undercover). You make want to check a field guide to see if there are any sorts of scale counts that can be done to distinguish a black rat from a Texas rat.

: hello all. I just picked up a copy of Chris Mattisons book "Encyclopedia of Snakes" and saw a picture of a leucistic black rat(page 41 for those who have the book). Just wondering if any one here produces these or can point me in the right direction of some one who does. Are these pure e.o. obsoleta or a hybrid of some type? I did a search in the ratsnake forum archives and the posts that it macthed me up with said that they are hybrids but I am hoping they are not. They're beautiful snakes but I am not interested in hybrids. thanks, Justin
