In Reply to: Spilotes double clutches on her own! posted by Dean Alessandrini on June 12, 2002 at 09:13:58:
That is exactly how mine went last year. The only difference was that my double was all infertile. This year no double clutch for some reason and I really fed her hard after she laid the first clutch. I am working on some interesting deals now which I will reveal in a few weeks that should really spice up breeding stock. Looks like I am really going full speed with this project.
I usually candle all eggs before they even get placed in the incubator. Good ones are noted and I watch the duds closely over the following few weeks and candle periodically just in case I missed something. It is very easy and very accurate. Spilotes eggs really harden and become extremely thick after a few weeks and candling is impossible so it must be done early on. Good luck and lets see some pics of your new babies.
: 4 days after laying her first clutch and 2 days after the first clutch hatched (10 out of 11) my female (who is over 8’) just laid a second clutch of 13 !!
: I did not put the pair back together or attempt to double clutch her. So far, the eggs look good…but it will be a few days before I know for sure if they are fertile.
