Dear Tom,

I have a couple of WC gonys and so does my friend. Unfortunately, he hasn't been able to breed them but it's definitely something for the future. The upside is that they are pretty common in my country.

While I would agree that it'd be better to get CB rather than WC, to say that they will drop dead within a year is misleading. My gony which was purchased from my friend was in his possession for over 9 months and I've had it now for more than 6 months. It's still doing fine.

Other than administering the usual preventive medication for parasites, there hasn't been anything much wrong with it. My personal experience with them is that they are reasonably hardy and good feeders. If you want a ratsnake with an attitude, this is pretty much it.

I'd say it's Paul's call whether he wishes to get the WC but if CBs are available, so much the better. If he is able to breed them successfully, that'd be absolutely great! All the best.

Francis

: These are beautiful snakes to work with but never buy these as wild caught. Its not a matter of challenge. They will simply drop dead within a year. don't waste your money. CB babies are available from time to time, if you really want to have this snake wait and look for CB. The wild caught oxycephala are already dead they just haven't stopped moving.

: Hello,

: : I may be purchasing a pair of WC specimens of this species. I would be really appreciative if anyone could post any tips on the captive care and breeding of them. Is it a bad idea to buy these? I know they aren't supposed to be the greatest captives as WC's, but I'm always up for a challenege and think it would be neat to raise some captive hatched babies for myself. So, is is it worth investing in these snakes? Thanks,

: : Paul
