There's no one THE best ratsnake, especially because the American ones seem so similar. My taiwan beauty is very hardy and tame, but a little quick and a fast grower. I also have a fox snake, who is a sweetie. They're very much like a corn snake but look a bit different. I'd look up some pictures and info, look at your budget, and pick out what you like :).
You'll probably also want to make sure it's captive bred.
