Well, Tom, since nobody else answered (unless they emailed you), I will try. I am not the local expert, and if anyone disagrees, or has anything to add...that would be great...
As far as heat, you are probably OK for now. If your stated temp is pretty accurate, I would think that the snake will be fine. Since he is striking at the glass, I will guess that he is wild-caught, although from what I have heard, with a Texas Rat, that may not be unusual. I will also guess that you are a beginner...What I am thinking, is that if you can't get to the point that you can handle this guy comfortably without getting "tagged"...you may want to consider investing in a captive born snake. You can pick up a cb ratsnake fairly inexpensively, and you may get more enjoyment out of him in the long run. Maybe your new friend will calm down, but if he does not...consider letting him go and purchasing a tamer one. With the time and money that you will invest in your snake, you will be glad when it gets bigger if you are able to take him out and handle him without fear. Good luck and keep us posted. MJ: Also he has eaten 1 mouse. He is very agressive and strikes at the glass. The substrate is gravel and mulche, a branch and a water bowl.
