Should I keep it or let it go? Now there is a question only you can answer for yourself. I caught a wild snake a few weeks ago, and after much deliberation chose to release it. I decided that there are plenty of captive bred snakes on the market that suit my tastes. Besides, captive bred snakes are usually more likely to make great "pets".
If you decide to keep the snake, educate yourself by buying a few books on the topic, or at least check out some of the webpages devoted to ratsnakes. With a little surfing you can find plenty of info. Be aware that ratsnakes can get lengthy, and will probably need at least a 20 gallon long tank when adult. They require a hiding spot, and a heat source (a heat gradient is important to remember). The snake should be offered a mouse (pre-killed), I'm guessing a "hopper" size would be sufficient once a week. Last but not least, access to water is a must.
Best wishes,
Mike
: Will it eat in captivity.. It was snappy at first but has calmed down alot.. I have it in a 10 gallon aquarium right now is this alright or should I just let it go...
