breeding question

i have a 4 ft fem. emory's rat and a 3 ft long male. every time i get my male close enough to my fem. he runs away and shows no intrest in breeding at all. ive been tring this for about a month and a half now and its getting pretty frustrating. could ne one give advice. thanks. KS
