need help with ID of snake. **PIC***

Hey group,
My wife and I went out on a nature trip today and we caught a few snakes, but we can't ID this one. We live in Kansas "near Kansas City". Could this be a great plains rat snake? or grey rat? We caught it near a stream and it darted right into the water when it saw us.
