: : : : : Kim,
: : : : : How long did the whole proccess take, a little over a week? Usually after all that they have a huge appetite! I was looking at your photos, I think he's past the 1 or 2 pinkie stage; I know you said you have a ton of pinks, so if you want to use them up before going to fuzzies, I'd give him 3 pinks (at least) at each feeding. I'm sure he can handle it. I only give pinks to hatchling beauties for their first couple of feedings then move to fuzzies. They love to eat and they have a digestive system that can handle it, too. When mine reach the 1 year mark, they're around 4 ft. By 2 yrs, they're over 6 ft. and breeding!!!
: : : : You know Mike I was thinking the same thing. At his last feeding right before he went into hiding I tried to give him 3. He would not eat them all. Today I put 2 in the cage with him & he ate just 1. He hasn't touched the other one. How often do you think he should be eating now?
: : : : Before his shed I was feeding him every 4 days. Before that every other day.
: : : : His shed took just over a week. How often do they usually shed?
: : : : How big around do they usually get full grown? I can't wait for him to get bigger.

: : : During the first year, they probably shed at least 8-10 times -- like I told you before, they grow fast. They are totally hassle free snakes. Most of the time they'll deficate in the water dish,if it's big enough, which makes it much easier to clean up. And just when they're getting ready to shed, they'll soak for an hour or so, making their shed problem-free. What more could you ask for? IF you've tamed them down, that is. I didn't handle mine enough, so I have 7+ feet of NASTY to deal with every time I have to do cage cleanings. If I'm lucky they just soil the water dish and then I grab the dish while the snake is in the hide box. I regret not taming them because every time I hold my big male blue beauty in my hands, I'm totally awe-struck by his beauty and can't help but just take a minute to just look at him. The photo on my web page is the female blue beauty, the male is much more colorful but I haven't gotten a photo yet that really shows his colors. Check out the female though.

: : Hi Mike,
: : She is beautiful. It is too bad that you didn't handle them more. Zeus is so sweet since I handle him a couple of times a day. I would hate to have him get nasty on me.
: : Your Mandarin rat snake has such beautiful color & markings. Are they easy snakes to keep?
: : You know I wanted to ask you about misting. Do you think Zeus needs to be misted?

Laura,
Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. Been busy. Zeus is in a 10 gallon aquarium. When he gets a little bigger I will move him into a 20 gallon. Right now he seems content in the smaller one. It looks like he might be getting ready to shed again. Which seems kind of strange.
He has been hiding for 4 days & refused to eat. shined the light in his hidey hole & his eyes look opaque.
Hugs
Kim
