We aren't all rednecks. Roundups are wrong, but so are you....

everything about the roundups are cruel

Agreed, the very idea of a roundup is abhorrent.

They dump gasoline into their holes to flush them out, contaminating that area for years to come, no other snake can then use that den, or a rodent can't use it either.

This practice is prohibited in many of the states where roundups occur. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Then they beat them around with snake hooks, to show the public how "evil" and mean they are.

I have been to a roundup. Mostly so that I could speak from first hand experience. It was disgusting, but they weren't "beating snakes with hooks". They do overcrowd them and treat them rather roughly (pinning them, sliding them around the pens with their feet, etc).

"Then they drown them, no, they don't kill them quickly and painlessly, they drown them."

That is simply untrue. They decapitate them. I have seen it.

"Theirs (sic) going to be massive overpopulation of mice and rats now, I hope all of the rodents carry the hantavirus and kill of all the rednecks!!!"

Interestingly, that doesn't seem to happen in areas where roundups have occurred for more than 50 years. In fact, there are still rattlesnakes in those areas.
Which brings up the question -
Do rattlesnake roundups work (keep down the number of snakes in the area)? The answer appears to be no. So why keep doing it?

I am not pro-roundup. I find it an abomination and it amazes me that this barbaric practice has survived into the 21st century.

Two other points:
1. Spouting false "facts" about the roundups in an effort to sway public opinion just gives roundup supporters more ammunition against us. It means those responsible for the decisions in the future won't take you seriously.

2. Castigating all roundup supporters as "rednecks" is no better than them classifying all of us as "tree-huggers". I am neither. I just don't like roundups.
