: : It's herping season here in Okinawa,JA. Can someone tell me the
: : Morphological differences between (Elaphe taeniura friesi) and
: : (Elaphe taeniura schmackeri). A picture is worth a thousand words,
: : But scale counts etc... would suffice. I would Like to be able to tell the
: : difference between the two, shgould I find an E. Taeniura spp here

: Elaphe taeniura doesn't occur naturally on Okinawa, but recently a few have been collected there. Most were E. t. friesi and believed to be brought to the island by man. One or two were collected that looked as if they may have been intergrates between E. t. friesi and E. t. schmackeri, but don't have enough information.
: Most E. t. friesi look the same pattern wise and color,,mainly greens/ blacks/ yellows , but I've seen E. t. schmackeri that were greenish , olive, yellowish and one that was very redish.

Rex,
If a few have been collected, it sounds like a breeding pop. might have been established.
