You folks were kind enough to help me identify the coachwhip who hangs out in my tortoise pen so I like to let you know how she is doing from time to time. Just wanted to let you know that she came out of hibernation about a month ago. I was working on a project in my driveway and she was quite interested; I spotted her 3 days in a row. I had quite a scare the next week when I found a 5 foot coachwhip dead on the road about a quarter mile from my house as I was sure it was her. Well I am very happy to report that the DOR coachwhip was not my beloved Carla - I saw her yesterday in the tortoise pen. Actually, I only saw most of her; she was in the tortoise's underground den with only the back end sticking out. It took me awhile to figure out why she looked funny until I realized that there were 2 coachwhip tails sticking out of the den! She had a gentlemen caller! I guess I can look forward to stumbling on little coachwhips again - hopefully they will all stay outside this year.
