I would recommend never to unduly stress an animals just cos it won't do what we want it to. I always work around my animals.
In ur case, I'd suggest giving it more time, and maybe reduce the amount of area being covered by the cloth gradually over days. Also, adding more furniture so as to provide more hide spots would tempt the fella to come out and explore too. Maybe put more strategically placed logs or hides in there with him.
Remember that if u do something extreme, like removing his hide and leaving him exposed, he would get too stressed even too eat, and that's not something u'd want.
Patience is the key.
Aaah! How come everyone else is getting racers cept me!!!

P.S. Even though I dun have one, what I just told u is common knowledge for all snakes. Good luck!

: I recently got a black racer, He is in a very nice 30 gallon L setup, and had a nice hide box. Ive had him about 12 days and he has eaten but he never comes out of his hide box. ive never seen him drink or anything except when i completely cover the cage. My question is, should i remove his hide box untill he gets use to his surrondings? he is by no means in a high traffic room. any help would be apreciated.
