Last May I took a road trip to New Mexico. I plan my trip so that went right through the Trans-pecos area. When I got to west Texas the nights were dropping to the low 50's. I didn't catch anything other than a Western Coachwhip that happened to be crossing the road at about two o'clock in the afternoon. After a quite enjoyable chase (Yeah right, I got skinned to hell;not to mentioned I recieved a nice kiss from my new captive) I finally returned to my car with what would be my only catch of the trip (that really sucked.) Anyway, this five and a half foot snake was a beautiful salmon pink and I decided to see how it would do in in captivity. When I got back home to Florida (I drove over 5000 miles to Santa Fe, New Mexico and back) I gave it two fuzzies and when I came back 30 minutes later they were gone. Since then, I have fed it a large mouse about every 10-12 days. It shed towards the end of June and is doing good. Amazingly, This energetic animal has learned to calm down a bit (i.e., it doesn't do its body rolls anymore.... boy were those fun.) I'd love to here from anybody that has had any interesting experiences keeping coachwhips or stories about catching or trying to catch them in the wild.

Later,
Wes
