well, i disagree, i think crickets are terrible as staple in the diet (just search the forum for previous posts i've made). many axolotls are picky eaters. the hand-feeding method is highly sucessful, but takes a lot of time. (mine do fine eating on their own, but then you have no control over portions/leftover foos). most axolotls will not eat when they are stressed, and if you just got him, he's going to be very stressed. i suggest setting up a tank for him (no gravel, no fish, see other posts for why), and putting in your worms. leave the filter off for now, so he can settle in, if you tank is the proper size, it shouldn't be a problem. i feed mine hikari sinking wafers and carnivore pellets, shrimp pellets, the rangen salmon pellets from the indiana axolotl colony, newt and salamander pellets (that's what they're called, i forget what brand), and 'newt and aquatic frog' diet (from jurrassidiet), amongst other things. it depends a lot on size. they can go a long time without eating, so just leave him alone with some food. if you see him nosing around on the bottom, he's looking for food, and he'll learn to sniff it out. another thing some people have had a lot of success with is beef heart, they even sell it in little pre-packed cubes as frozen fish food.

good luck- i can't wait to get my own golden albino...
