confusing ID

all the "lead backs" i ever caught looked like the color of graphite in a pencil or like tarnished silver. That is, they were grey. I have never seen one i'd describe as bronze, though i guess there are those in between the phases which i have never seen.
i'd bet it was a mountain dusky.
but where in New York? Is a long-tailed salamander out of the question? they can be yellowish brown.
get a field guide and browse, maybe you will see something that looks like it.
