feed it live foods. if its staying on land, try pinhead crickets, wax worms, and meal worms. if it stays in the water, try brine shrimp, blood worms, and tubifex worms. a healthy newt, especially japanese fire bellies, won't resist a live wax worm dangled in front of their nose. fire-bellies are mostly aquatic and shouldn't reject being in the water. However, fire bellies also have a short terrestrial stage; yours might be in this stage. also, they only need to eat 3-4 times a week.
