Mercurochrome is safe for animal?

One of my waterdog ( called "Grin") has hurt his mouth when he bited (or "gummed", this is for Chris ;-) ) one of his "friends" (if I can call it a friend) during the feeding time. You think that I can use mercurochrome to disinfect the mouth? I thought that this product killed a lot of cells.

: For our purposes I think that salt solutions are the best and least toxic.
: Bathing sites of fungal infection in very dilute vinegar (NOT the whole
: animal, just the site of infection) is also effective, but can be painful
: for the animal.
