I drove south today to north central Missouri: Swan Lake Nat Wildlife Refuge. We've had our first warm days of the year this week, today it was in the upper 70s. The Chorus frogs were calling, a few bullfrogs were out too.
This guy was just emerging from hibernation, coming out of what looked like a crayfish hole. This is at the edge of this subspecie's range. The place looks like watersnake heaven, so I'll be heading back that way soon.
