Hey Mizar 21, I built a really nice koi/goldfish pond a few years ago, stocked it and raised some (about a hundred) beautiful big fat fish! The fish are like pets and follow us as we walk around the pond. My wife loves them and feeds them like children. Last year I was having trouble finding appropriate size feeders - my wife, seeing me standing at the edge of the pond sensed what I was thinking - closest I've ever come to divorce! Where you live, you should be able to fish just about anywhere and catch acceptable food for your snakes. Just make sure you've got a licence.
And I'm with you about Pierson and the lab. I went through school studying zoology (herpetology vitually didn't exist then) and wound up side tracked working with steel instead. Follow your dream!
