I woke this morning to find Bob dead. Poor little guy. I'm positive he was impacted. I looked at that website yesterday, and I think you're right, the substrate might be what's causing impaction here. Among the list of probable causes, this seemed most likely. I know he wasn't dehydrated, I've seen him drink plenty of times. Unless it was some sort of parasite load ... I never had him tested. I was using bed-a-beast, and feeding mealworms. Although the worms were in a dish, a number of them escaped and ran free in the enclosure. I'm sure he ate some of them from the ground (though I had seen him also feed from the dish). Sheila was hand-fed nightcrawlers, but some of their dirt always stuck to the worms.

So I'm sad to say I have no more MHD's. It feels so empty now ... and I've got this beautiful enclosure I don't know what to do with. Guess I'll find a place to put it away until I'm ready to try again.
