Joe is right, they pack the soil over the eggs by ramming it with their head. Watch to make sure mom's eyes are ok after she is done too. I have never known them to crush any eggs and they don’t usually hurt themselves. I have had a couple of instances where the female got soil in her eye and it didn't seem to clear up on it's own. To prevent infection I flushed it under running water, just a gentle stream, and then swabbed it gently from front to back with a wet cotton ball until the eye opened. Then flushed again and left her to regain her strength.
As for the first clutch, if you have made it 2 months with no discoloration, dents, or mold/slime they are probably good. I don't believe mine get 2-3 times the original size but they do increase in size a good bit. Mostly you will notice this more the last couple of months when the baby is really growing good. It takes 5-6 months for them to incubate so patience is the name of the game. At 3-4 months you should be able to hold a penlight flashlight up to the egg and see a silhouette of the baby. Sometimes all you really see is a mass with a tail or maybe a small triangular head but you should see at least a shadow. Even now you may see a small dark area where the fetus is developing.
Congrats on the new clutch, make sure you give mom some special care just in case she is going to lay another clutch. They can lay up to 4 clutches per mating usually at 2-3 month intervals.
