Wild monitors are loaded with parasites and eat carrion. Monitors have a VERY high reproductive potential. (Lots and lots of babies) The bacteria which inhabit carrion can vary from location to location. All these are variables which no sensible pet owner will tolerate.
Ground meat can be contaminated by the processing equipment. Cuts and ground meat do not contain: bones, cartilage, organs, or skin. I personally do not feed even raw whole animals to my monitors. After my experience with the death of my adult Savannah Monitor from bacteria, I am very afraid of infections.
