: In the wild niles eat carrion (dead deacaying meat). A lot of bacteria is produced by the meat, but the monitors still eat it in the wild with no problem, so why shouldn't they be fed raw meat sometimes? Also, prekilled chicks are the almost the same as ground chicken or turkey but without the bones and feathers and the meat is not ground. Basically you're saying a whole chicken is safer then a ground chicken when they're almost the samething. I feed my mangrove and dumeril's raw meat about 2-3 times a week.

A whole, freshly killed chicken is safer than a
processed chicken because the facilities for
processing chickens are very unhygenic. The
chicken meat is often contaminated with nasty
bacteria, most notably Salmonella. This can be
bad for your monitor, and can definitely be
bad for you. The bacteria associated with decay
are different from the intestinal
symbiont/pathogen Salmonella. Also, processed
chicken meat does not have the bones and organs
in it, which provide essential viatmins and
minerals not present in muscle meat. That is
why a whole chicken is better than a ground
chicken.
