In Reply to: A tub fitted into the bottom thats a good idea n/p posted by bigdee on May 09, 2003 at 16:12:10:

Here is my home for my new pair of Ackies I got this week, the dirt is 12inches deep. The cage was a display for a flower shop it is a octagon that is 32 inches wide and 6 foot tall, I just layed it down.

::Hi
::I recently went through the same dilemma, and kinda solved it by having a cage built incorporating a very large plastic tub.
::The cage itself is 6 feet long by 3feet high and 30 inches deep,
::but i managed to find a tub approx 4 feet by 2 and approx 12 inches deep.
::The idea is to have a hole cut in to the base of the cage, and sit the tubs lip at floor level, which stops the wooden cage from rotting, and gives the Ackies a moist place to dig, and lay eggs.
::I hope to get the thing delivered and will post a pic when it arrives.
::Good luck
::ian
