is dirt good to eat?

after making sure my monitor is ok i put dirt in his cage. its about 5 inches deep. as soon as i finish the exams i'll build him a bog permanet cage with deepr dirt. anyway i feed him today and while he was playing with his food a lot of dirt got stuck to it. its mostly soil , no leves or braches. i had read that its ok and will not harm him.. can you jsut confirm this again. it didn't bother him but i hope it will not harm him
