Some great posts already, but I also wanted to point out one other possibility for you: Rescue!!! Many reptile rescues have great animals available, and you can usually find an adult snake for about the same as you'd spend on a hatchling. However, some rescues don't ship, so look at the rescue groups nearest you first. Oh, and just because they are in "rescue" doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it - most of the time they are in perfect shape - a lot of rescues just come from folks who don't want their snake anymore.

Feel free to e-mail for some help in locating a rescue near you. There are several online websites with rescue listings, but I'm finding that many of them have broken links - it's easier to guide you via e-mail.
