In Reply to: o.k. guys this is my whole entire take on the hypo morphs... posted by shannon brown on July 21, 2002 at 01:38:22:
Shannon, I will try to make this a short one but I really think that most HYPOS are either a from of albinism OR a heritable trait that noone has seen so they call it HYPO. While we can be familiar with "T+ AND T-" albinos whos to say there arent 10-20 other types out there?? While we like to think that we are now aware of albinos beyond the "classic amelanism" I think that albinism can vary as much as any "phase' or "locality".Far too many of us are just looking for recessive genes when a "complex" could be involved like say the HYPO boas. I brought up the red eyes on the HYPO honduran a while back and got some breeders to admit that their HYPOS "sometimes" have red eyes. I think we are mostly following the "morph-norm" and giving far too much credit to those introducing "NEW" morphs. I also dont think it appropriate to compare milksnakes, cornsnakes and boas with "like" genes as they are only "LIKE" to US--and only VISUALLY!! And to this I give the BALL PYTHON people more credit(I dont believe I'm saying that but...)because they arent simply trying to fit a "morph"into a SET CATAGORY. Each abberation affects different genes and chromatophores VERY differently. If we look at all these morphs INDIVIDUALLY we will more easily realize the bigger genetic picture----which is to say that there is NO standard definition possible. Anyone agree????Jeff
