eggs and candling

I had heard that in the latter stages of an egg's incubation you should no longer be able to see the red color when you candle it because the developing gecko blocks out all the light. at what point does this occur? my first clutch is due somewhere between the 25th and 30th of this month and I can still see red. I can't really tell the placement/size of the embryo though because the eggs are dirty from the substrate. thanks guys!
