My vet who specializes is Herps strongly suggested AGAINST any kind of sand type substrate... that was one vote... then, Julie (owner of www.geckoranch.com, where I bought my newest leos, each a year and a half old) also strongly advised against using any kind of sand substrate... as far as I'm concerned, they are both VERY knowledgeable, and their suggestions/recommendations carry a lot of weight for me. My Leos are on repticarpet
