I do not like sand....and I have tried it before. My leos kept getting mouthfuls of it and had sand in their droppings. Sand can give impactions or eye problems.
If you absolutely MUST have it tho, use repti-sand or calcisand....the grains are smaller than playsand and therefore will be passed easier.
Do NOT use ANY sand with young leos....they must be over six months old to be put on sand.
Your best bet would be to stay away from sand to be absolutely safe tho.
