1) Is bed-a-beast safe as a moist hide substrate for babies or ought I stick to paper towels?

2) Care to guess at an age? I thought it was really young, but the spots on its back are actually a bunch of very very small spots, not the solid bands of young-ness, which is leading me to believe it's not as super-young as I thought. About 3" long, no weight yet but you can estimate from the pictures.
