Official Wildlife rescue and rehabilitation is a rather complex issue, that may require numerous permits and legal status in order to be done in accordance with federal, state, and municipal law, as it applies in your area.

There currently is at least one such organization that is in the process of servicing the New Orleans Metro area. If you have the resources required to set up such a service, and are willing to acquire the various permits and status required, then I would certainly encourage you to do so. Keep in mind that reptile rescue and adoption involves a significant amount of veterinary costs, and is not typically a very profitable endeavor.
