I suggest that the workers who described U.S. subspecies where wed to the outmoded biological species concept. I believe I have previously mentioned that the major institutions have discarded subspecies as biologically uninformative. How many subspecies have been desribed in the U.S. in the last quarter century? How many new species have been desribed? How many allopatric subspecies have been elevated to species?
