Not sure why game and wildlife would be giving you the runaround but . . . anyway . . . three things you can do, 1- find out who the game warden/ranger is for your county. Game and wildlife should be able to do this or your county extension office usually located in the county courthouse. Then call the warden and ask him. 2 - go to the library and look up a copy of state laws. There should be a specific section on wildlife that outlines in detail anything and everything you ever wanted to know or even didn't want to know about wildlife law. 3 - call your city permit department. Some states leave animal ownership to the city. Some states have specific herping laws, other only require that you obtain a hunting or fishing liscense.
