:Cat-scratch disease (aka Cat-scratch Fever aka Bacillary Angiomatosis) is a serious medical condition (in spite of the stupid Ted Nugent song) which may affect as many as 22,000 people per year. It is caused when a cat scratches a person (often a child) and infects them with the bacterium Bartonella henselae.
:It leads to lymphatic complications which can be fatal in immune compramized individuals and require surgery to remove infected lymph nodes in others.
:Then there are the serious birth defects (and infections of immune compromised people) caused by the cat parasite Toxoplasma gondii.
