WKMG-6 (Orlando, Florida) & KETV (Omaha, Nebraska) 26 January 03 9-Foot Python Found In Omaha Home
Omaha, Nebraska: Nebraska Humane Society officials visiting a home to investigate an animal complaint Friday found something they were not expecting -- a 9 1/2-foot Burmese python.
The python grows to be anywhere from 14 to 16 feet long. It is illegal to own any snake over 6-foot long in Omaha.
The snake's owner said he thought he had bought another type of snake, a Ball Python, which is legal. Having an illegal snake is a misdemeanor and brings a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $500 fine.
Humane Society workers said they would not have any trouble finding a new home for the snake. The organization planned to contact zoos to house it.
