As yes....deserts are known for being "touchy" as in temperamental. As for getting bit...don't worrie about it. I know many snake books tell you to go to the doctor after getting bit but that's ridiculous (unless ofcouse the snake is venomous). I have been bit by all kinds of snakes, even big boas and the bites are not nearly as bad as some skined knees and elbows I did to myself. On kings they have many small sharp teeth, and for such a small snake it would most likely not brake the skin. Even if it does, it will leave small pin pricks...if ya want just wash off the area and put some cream on it. No big deal. I would work with the snake, use gloves if ya have to, to get it used to being handled...if not it will learn that it can scare you away and the behavior will not go away.
