I'm a little curious about something...why a scarlet snake (Cemphora coccinea ssp.)? These things usually don't do too well in captivity, because the preferred food is reptile eggs...difficult to keep a steady supply of those on hand. Sometimes they will eat other things, such as small snakes, lizards and occasionally rodents. Are you sure you don't mean a Scarlet King Snake (Lampropeltis triangulum elapsoides)? They are commanly offered for sale as captive born animals and will thrive on small mice. Wild caught individuals of this species can be difficult in captivity also. I had one once that wouldn't eat anything but skinks. What a pain. At any rate, the boa seems like the best choice for a first snake to me between the two choices you listed. A boa constrictor will soon outgrow a 20L, though. Perhaps a Rainbow boa or Rosy boa...or...better yet, how about a king snake or rat snake?

Whatever you decide on for a snake, the cage furnishings can be as elaborate or as spartan as you want. For most snakes that are commonly kept as pets, some newspaper in the bottom of the cage, a cardboard box with a hole cut in the side, a water bowl and a heating pad are all you need.

:i need some advice on what kind of snake to get and what i can get. right now i have a 20L tank and i am gonna get around $130 soon and i want to get a scarlet snake or a boa.
:what snakes would be better in this tank?
:how much is the least i can spend on a light bedding and decor?
:thanx for help
