Jeff,
I'm much more comfortable with your thoughts about diet/size relationships being expressed as hypotheses than as facts. From my point of view, it's certainly only a theory, because i don't see anything supporting it as fact, and I see considerable persuasive argument in the replies of several who challenged the hypothesis.
With your background in science, I'd hope for a more positive response to the post below that suggests the "eight foot" king be thawed, measured and photographed. That's science, and it gives us all FACT on which to comment and on which to base future speculation. Anecdotal accounts of "the big one" that escaped to the freezer is useless, no matter how thought-provoking your threads are. That's not meant to belittle your credibility, it's just the difference between scientific data and rumor, gossip, hearsay or anecdote.
I hope you'll get it measured & photo'd for us all.
Peace,
Terry
