There are also populations near Davis, Fresno, and Stockton at least. In Davis probably less than 10% of the population is the melanistic form.

I talked to a friend of mine in california who has probably caught more cal. kings than most and he told me there was a wild population of melanistic cal. kings in the northern california area near a lake near Sacramento and hopefully I can find out what lake.
