: Hi everyone, I saw this new forum and realized I don't know anything about Indigos. I wanted to know if someone could tell me of a care sheet I could read. Or interesting facts, I keep a bunch of snakes but no Indigos, I'm always looking to learn about reptiles.
: Thanks a lot, any help would be appreciated

Hello Tom
Hi Doug and John:
I think you will find as much here in a short period of time as you will need.
Doug is right about the loyalty of Drymarchon owners. These snakes are really quite different than many others.
Second of all he is right about the way they feed. In an earlier post I reported how brutal mine were to food animals. They actually will crush their prey against the wall or roof of the enclosure.
Of course with all the good points about them there are some downsides to them as well.
The first thing is when they go "potty", they go. They have a loose stool that they can spread all over the cage which makes cleaning day a fun day. Males are especially bad about this. (possible Territory markers?!)
The second thing is that they need lots of food to keep them healthy, sometimes 2-3 times as much as other snakes of similar size. This isn't really a problem, just something you should know.
And thirdly they are notorious for rubbing their rostral (nose) raw, almost to the bone if not kept in large enough terraria. A hide box sometimes helps to prevent this self- destructive behaviour.
If all of this does not bother you then welcome to the club. These snakes really are fascinating and are quite different from many other species. Being diurnal, they can be fun to watch because of their inquisitive nature.
I hope this info helps to understand these unique snakes a little better. Have a Great Day!!!
