: : Ive noticed that my indigo is a creature of habbit..
: : 1) He always manages to place his crap halfway on the glass and halfway on his substrate--making clean up nice and hard EVERYTIME!
: : 2) Ive also noticed that he has his own designated "crap spots." Same place everytime.
: : 3) He is not as aquatic as I would have suspected--he never swims.
: : 4) Unlike every other snake I've owned, he eats his mice both front to back and back to front as well...
: : ..just some things I've noticed in the past 9 months while raising him. Not complaining, just observing.
: : P.S....Has anybody else noticed HOW SHARP THE TIPS OF THEIR TALES ARE???
: I also have noticed how indigos will eat prey tail first. I think this reflects their natural tendecy to eat items quickly, regardless of position. These guys really gobble. In the wild they are diurnal snakes that are pretty obvious to potential predators. There is a strong selective advantage for eating fast and "getting out of Dodge".
Hello Matt
Hi Tim:
Drymarchon are not constrictors which is part of the reason you see these bizarre feeding habits. They also have a crushing bite unlike any snake I've seen. I've seen mine grab a rat and grind it into the walls of their cage with their heads, killing the prey very quickly. They are really awesome to watch feed. Have a Great Day!!!
