This is probably day one info, but I thought it was insteresting, and hopefully other newbies like myself can benifit from it.
I recently bought two gorgeous baby easterns from Doug Taylor that had yet to take their first meal. I've offered live pinks and goldfish several times, but neither seemed to show the slightest interest in them.
Yesterday I decided to offer the last of the two "comet" goldfish in my tank... Although the fish were flopping all over the place in from of the snakes, both indigos had their eyes glued on me, half a room away, watching them to see if they'd eat. It was like a freaking staring contest.
I placed some junk in front of the enclosures, to see if I was just distracting them from their tasty food. Glacing back at the bins after a minute or so, I noticed the male has found a way to contort himself just enough to peer around the edge of my little barrier and continue staring at me.
Grrr....
So, I went back over, rebuilt the little wall between us, and before I made it back to my computer chair, I heard the tell-tail thumps and smacks of yet another goldfish leaving this world. That's all it took. As soon as he couldn't see me anymore, he instantly focused in on the food and chomped it right down. I checked the female, and her goldfish was already gone. (she must be a bit more gracefull than the male...I never heard her make a sound...)
So, anyway...I think if I'd have respected their privacy a bit more, my babies would have started eating a week ago or more...
From what I hear, they get less fussy about having people around once they've realized how much fun eating can be...
