I'm no expert on Indigos, but I have an idea of what might be happening. I think in the wild they are probably not finding too many tiny little mice cowering somewhere while they are hunting. In all probability the prey they are finding in the wild is moving quite a bit and is often times quite larger than a little mouse. The Indigo in the wild is probably often in actual "pursuit" of fleeing prey. In a cage, the Indigo becomes aware that there is prey nearby because jacobsons organ said so, but it doesn't see anything running away. It's instincts are not telling it to examine every nook and crevice for a little itty bitty snack. It is looking for obvious escape behavior. Lacking that, it lunges for the biggest thing it can see since it knows something MUST be nearby because jacobsons said so. Sounds kind of Jurassic doesn't it? Sounds like perfect survival mechanisms kicking in.
