:I have to say Dean has the right idea, I too have seen other species, shuch as my watercoberas bite themselves from a sent rub, also I've seen my y.t's bite the paper substrate because of spilled rat blood. You have too think too... a 4 sided cage lets little air movement and the snake is overwhelmed with the sent of rat and more or less just seen a flash go by. Then when the rat is located I've seen them rub it around like tring to make sure it is etible (not something like the waterbowl). see what your snakes do when you put a warm bantam egg in their cage (yes! rite out of the fridge) is funny to watch, if they don't just eat it rite away ,as it rolls around is the cage the snake will lose track of it and you get that same responce like he's blind but it's not a reaction like a mouse, the snake will spend time using his jacobsons organ alot tring to test it . I also will recommend not leaving the egg in the cage too long for fear of salminila. joe
